Most weekly magazines such as NME only have one page for the contents. However, monthly magazines such as ROCK SOUND appear to have two pages. I asked my target audience which they would prefer based on the fact my magazine will be a monthly magazine. I produced them with two different flat plans and simply asked what they would prefer and why.
6 out of the 10 people of my target audience that i asked agreed that they prefered the contents featuring two pages. They said that because it is a monthly magazine, there will be more articles than a weekly one and that it may look too crammed and over whelming all on one page. They like the fact that the picture dominates one of the pages which only features the main articles and that their is no pictures on the second page just text and that there is still going to be a picture to draw in attention but the text will be spread out making it easier to read. They also liked the fact that the double contents page means there is enough room for an "index of artists" because it would save them having to search the whole magazine just to find the artist they wish to read about. With only 6 out of 10 choosing the double contents page, I still had to take in to account other peoples opinions. They said that they just liked the fact all the articles would be on one page. However i believe that the people who agreed on the double contents page have a stronger argument to back up their reasoning. I have also agreed that a double contents page would be best for my monthly magazine.
