Knowing that the model for my front cover would be female, I began researching into front covers of magazines that featured women. I am using these front covers as a guide of how to DRESS MY MODEL, CAMERA ANGLES, BACKGROUND, FACIAL EXPRESSIONS and BODY LANGUAGE as the women featured in them all look flawless. All of these covers feature a beautiful role model which then also act as an EYE-CATCHER for attracting male customers. Looking at these covers has indicated many inspirations and ideas of exactly how i wish for my front cover to look.
On this post i have included the front cover of Vogue. I am fully aware that Vogue is not a music magazine, it is in fact in the fashion magazine market. However, the picture of Lana Del Rey on the front could easily be used in a music magazine. Everything from the GESTURES to the CAMERA ANGLE and DIRECTION OF GAZE is just perfect. The CLOSE UP image could easily be on the front of a music magazine because it has flexibility. The CAMERA ANGLE is slightly low however it graduates on an EYE-LEVEL GAZE. This is exactly the angle I wish to capture my front cover photos with. Her hair and makeup is perfect as it looks fairly natural however you can tell that it is a PROFESSIONAL SHOOT. The clothes she is wearing are original and over the top, which stands out. The colours of them also match the colour scheme of the rest of the front cover.
The Rolling Stone magazine is a music magazine featuring 'indie' genre of music. Again, Lana Del Rey is featured as the front cover. The picture of her on Rolling Stone completely contrasts with the picture of her on the cover of Vogue. This picture is a MEDIUM LONG SHOT as apposed to the close up of her on Vogue. The picture is obviously completely black, white and grey, adding prominence to the title which is red, the bright colour stands out and even adds a UNIQUE SELLING POINT as the contrast between the picture and the title is original and doesn't appear on any other magazine. The picture itself still features gestures of Lana Del Rey touching her hair. Her hair is down, long and very natural. Her make-up also appears to be very natural. You can tell that it is a PROFESSIONAL SHOT however there is nothing that implies it is a STUDIO SHOT. In actual fact, it looks as if its been shot outside which can be implied by the lighting. Her clothes are also very different on Rolling Stone than it is on Vogue. On this front cover, she is wearing a very plain swimming costume, highlighting the outline of her impeccable figure where as on Vogue she is wearing a very decorative details top. The camera angle of this picture is similar to Vogue. It is slightly LOW CAMERA ANGLE however her DIRECTION OF GAZE is definitely different, Her head is positioned slightly upwards however she is still looking at the camera, she looks as if she is looking down. This picture is a lot more posed than the one featured of Vogue.
