Ava Green
After her split from girl group “Young Money”, Ava Green has started a brand new career and has hit the big time solo. In this time she has been the face of American Apparel as well as been arrested on numerous occasions for offences such as drink driving and assaulting a traffic warden. But through this, her new album “Our Nation” has reached the top ten on Billboard and seen a massive interest from the States. We wanted to have a catchup with Ava to find out where she goes next with her music and life.
As Ava Green walked through the doorway of a dingy backstreet Coffee Shop in Brick Lane, ON TIME, ‘Do or Die’ was pleasantly surprised as she is notoriously late to everything. As she strolled in wearing high-waisted Disco Pants, a huge fur coat and an array of jewellery we couldn’t help but think what an icon she was. She pulled down her Wayfarer Ray Bans to reveal her tired eyes and spotted us in the corner then waved enthusiastically. As she pulled up a chair, she huskily whispered “bit of a shithole aint it” then continued to laugh.
So what have you been up to recently in your new found freedom?
“Its been much better for sure. I don’t have to worry about the opinions of others around me when writing a song and then have to worry about an argument kicking off as now only one opinion matters – mine. I can also just do my own thing outside of the studio and that’s pretty fun too when the coppers aren’t on your back”
Yeah…what’s this about you getting in a rumble with a traffic warden? We thought that was rather funny when we saw the pictures.
“Well basically I parked my car in the doorway of a club which apparently is against the law so this jobs worth bloke started giving me a load of hassle and I felt the need to launch a makeup bag at him. When I got nicked for it I wasn’t entirely impressed”
Don’t you think though at some point the wild partying and drinking has to stop somewhere?
“I just see it as I am young and free to do what I want. I have everything Ive ever wanted so you only live once so I might as well enjoy it why it lasts. You see people like Rhianna getting bad press, but fair play to her. Id love a night out with her…I reckon I could most definitely keep up”
What would you do if you saw the other girls out one night from the band…have you kept in contact?
“Well to be honest me and Lexi keep in contact over BBM every now and then, but we rarely see each other. She is a lovely girl but we just had different ideas. Violent on the other hand, can quite frankly go f*** herself. I think she would end up with a drink in her face or something”
OK, moving on swiftly, what can we expect from your new work Ava?
“Well the last album was successful, obviously because I wrote it. I had a new lease of life and was so passionate when I was writing so it had a better end product. When I was in Young Money I couldn’t really be arsed so the outcome wasn’t great. I want to collaborate with Trey Songz and Lana Del Rey so theres talks going on at the moment for that. Apart from that, I’m keeping it all up my sleeve”
Also you have been announced as a headliner for Wireless Festival in London. Are you excited?
“Yeah its going to be dope. I had a chat with Drake the other day and hopefully we are going to come up with something together to perform which will be unreal. Definitely worth coming to check out. Its my first gig on my own as well so Im going to play some of my new stuff and Il give the crowd a good time”
Thankyou for your time...where are you off to now?
“Im guessing somewhere where there is booze. –she winks and picks up her bag- you can join me if you like but go hard or go home. Up to you..”
